Za'atar scones. Never did I ever think I'd take one of my favorite spice blends that I grew up on and combine it with a scone. If you've never heard of za'atar it's middle eastern blend of herbs and spices. To be specific, it's oregano, thyme, toasted sesame seeds.
With all my baking, you'd think I was a real sweet tooth, but I'm a lover of all things savoury. And za'atar, well, I'm all in on that stuff too. It's bloody delicious in all its herby goodness. You can have Za'atar scones using 5 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook it.
Ingredients of Za'atar scones
- Prepare 2 cups of AP flour.
- Prepare 1 tbsp of BP.
- You need 5 tbsp of unsalted butter, chilled and diced small pieces.
- Prepare 1 cup of heavy cream.
- It's 1/2 cup of za'atar.
I sprinkle that stuff like green fairy dust onto soups and salads for a bit of punchy flavour, so it was always going to. Prepare a baking tray with baking paper. For the scones: Place the flours, baking powder, salt, sugar and zaatar in the bowl of a food processor. Add the butter in chunks and pulse the machine a few times until the butter no longer is visible and the mixture becomes like coarse sand.
